Traditional safety nets like pensions,
Social Security, and bank savings
accounts, are not providing enough
income for more than half of all
retirees. Funding the shortfall is on
their shoulders.
How are Americans doing?
Many Americans are woefully under-
prepared for climbing their retirement
mountain.
Here is a sample of some disturbing
retirement statistics from recently
published articles:
1. One third of Americans have no
retirement savings and 56% have
less than $10,000.
2. 23% of senior married couples and
46% of single seniors rely on Social
Security for 90% of their income.
3. Only 18% of Americans are very
confident that they will have
enough money for retirement.
4. In the next four years, about 32%
of seniors age 65-74, will still be in
the labor force versus 20% in 2002.
5. 60% of seniors are fearful that they
will outlive their money.
