- Background your client for restraining orders and other need to know issues

- Will usually shop hourly rates
- Always get a retainer
- Can be emotional
- May change plans
- Beware of Buyers Remorse
- Don’t be afraid to recommend you work with their attorney
- Don’t be afraid to say no. You don’t have to take every case that comes across your desk

- Start off with retainer first few cases
- Volume work may necessitate invoicing
- Clearly mark invoices with terms – Net Due on Invoice – Net 15 Days – Net 30 Days
- Always ask about upcoming hearing dates and times
- May request specific tasks
- Provide feedback on tasks requested i.e. difficulty, additional fees necessary, etc.
- Provide a list of suggested other tasks to conduct during investigation
- Provide updates as necessary for HIGH IMPORTANT information (phone or in person)
- Provide one report per piece of investigation (10 interviews 10 reports)
