Sisters Place, founded in 1993, is a supportive housing community committed to assisting single par-
ent families who are homeless in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Their mission is to assist families toward
self-sufficiency by providing housing and supportive services. The Sisters Place housing units are lo-
cated in the Clairton community. 27 units are permanent housing subsidized by the U.S. Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for families referred through coordinated intake in Allegheny
             County via Allegheny Link (1-866-730-2368).

Additionally, they provide transitional housing for 5 families through their own Empowerment Housing
Program that is privately funded for those that do not meet HUD eligibility requirements. These fami-
lies are referred by partner organizations and via word of mouth.

While families are at Sisters Place, they are encouraged to participate in case management, child devel-
opment and education services, individualized goal setting, and life skills groups. Sisters Place believes
that every family needs a safe place to grow and thrive. Their services address the fundamental needs of
families, who are working hard to make a better life for themselves. In 2017, Sisters Place assisted 52
families including 101 children. 90% of these families moved safely into independent housing. With an
annual budget of just over $1 million, Sisters Place, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, receives funding
from the local foundation community, HUD, organizations, businesses and many caring individuals.

They are always looking for new friends to sponsor, volunteer or attend their three annual fundraising
events. They are also always recruiting volunteers to help in the office and on event planning commit-
tees. Get to know Sisters Place better and help to strengthen our community one family at a time at

Twenty-three percent of the homeless population in the US is under the age of 18.

Older individuals are at risk of being homeless later in life due to lack of income.
