Family and community are an essential part of home life. The give and take with our community and loved ones is the current of home. Elders lose this presence when they are locked away in a traditional nursing home. It is important to create opportunity for elders to have human connections outside of their fellow residents and staff. This is not only asking family and community to visit the facility but also to get elders off campus.
ACTIVITY:
Ask participants to form small groups. Each group is to devise a strategy for family and/or community involvement. It could be a strategy for individuals or groups. The participants should not only come up with a idea of the opportunity, but also a strategy for carrying it out as best they can barring specific factors.
By this time, participants should be incorporating brainstorming, active listening, the spiral of learning and transformational leadership. Also, they should try to utilize the principles of a learning organization and the domains of well-being.
The small groups should then present their strategies to the whole group and ask for feedback.
