Is the Traditional “One-to-One Program” Needed?
Are traditional one-to-one programs needed in a household? Living like family in a household perhaps negates the need for one-to-ones that are so necessary in institutional care. In our work with households, it has dawned on us that one-to-ones are really just Band Aids to institutional loneliness. We’ve learned that most residents have far more interaction living in close quarters in a household than in a traditional style nursing home. However, one-to-ones may still be needed by persons who are non-responsive no matter how much life is around them, especially if they have no family members.
Staff Learning Circle Questions (ask all questions in one statement and then open for the circle responses) Have we succeeded in helping each householder create a vibrant life for themselves here? If not, what could we do for those missing out?
Do any of our householders need more human contact?
