Associate Handbook
Category II Rules
Violations of Category II rules are of a more serious nature and will generally result in more serious discipline, even for a first offense. Penalties for violation Category II rules may include:
First Offense Final written warning with or without suspension for a period of up to five (5) working days without pay.
Second Offense Termination of employment.
24. Associates may not engage in negligent, careless, harmful, or reckless behavior resulting in danger, damage, or harm, or loss of property related to residents, families, visitors, team leaders, coworkers, or the location.
25. Associates who drive Company vehicles or personal vehicles while conducting Company business, may not engage in careless or reckless driving, which includes using cell phones or texting while driving and any other conduct in violation of the Motor Vehicles and Driver Qualifications policy.
26. Associates may not make false or malicious statements about a resident, family member, vendor, team leader, associate or leadership.
27. Associates may not threaten, coerce, intimidate, or interfere or appear to initiate these actions with residents, family members, vendors, leadership or other associates.
28. Associates may not violate the No Solicitation/No Distribution policy.
29. Associates may not misuse the property of the Company, residents, family members, vendors, team
leaders or another Associate for his/her own use.
30. Associates must adhere to instructions on lifting, transferring, and moving residents.
31. Associates must report all work related injuries or accidents and complete the required paperwork,
within 24 hours of the injury.
32. Associates may not solicit or accept tips, loans, gifts or anything of monetary value from residents,
families, visitors or vendors. Associates may not purchase or offer to purchase any personal belongings from residents, family members, visitors or vendors. Offers of gifts of any value from residents, family members, visitors or vendors must be communicated to the team leader, a member of management or the Community Leader.
33. Associates may not seek additional employment outside of The Piper Senior Living while on an approved medical or personal leave of absence without the express written permission of the Community Leader, except where permitted by Federal or State law.
34. Associates may not misrepresent reasons for being absent from or late to work.
35. Associates may not make or receive personal phone calls, use personal cell phones while on duty or use company telephones without permission. Further, associates may not record or tape conversations, take photographs, record video footage, or use the camera or video device on their personal cellular/video phones or send and receive text messages at any time while on duty. In certain circumstances use of personal camera phones or other video equipment will qualify as a Category III infraction and will be subject to termination. (NOTE: In the course of their duties an associate may be required to take photographs for business purposes but only with a company
issued camera and at the direction of their team leader or manager.)
Associates may not violate any other conduct or location work rule of a similar nature not specifically mentioned herein.
Category III Rules
Violations of Category III rules are considered very serious, and violations may subject an associate to immediate suspension without pay pending an investigation and/or termination. Internal investigations will be attempted to be completed within 5 business days, however, in the event the internal investigation requires additional time, the period of suspension may be extended.
