5. LAT was created to safeguard MAR’s legislative priorities when quick action was required. I don’t understand why there is urgency to pass this bill quickly, particularly given the deep division in Leg/Reg and the BOD. Nor do I see a connection between this bill and our legislative priorities.
6. There are plenty of precedents whereby we have had bills tabled until further study and consultation could be coordinated among Leg/Reg, MREC, and other affected entities. This process fostered the development of better legislation for the public and our members, a good relationship with MREC, and harmony within MAR.
7. Our legislative strength is borne of a unified, common purpose. It doesn’t exist for this bill, and I’m concerned this will be a blow to our credibility with legislators.
