We are pleased to report that House and Senate bills for our number one Legislative priority have passed out of the Senate and the House to the respective houses! On Tuesday, February 9, 2020, Representative Clay Deweese (REALTOR®) presented the bill before the House of Representatives and HB 352 passed 111-4. On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, Senator Chris Caughman presented SB 2627 on the Senate floor and the measure passed 52-0! These bills are identical, and each bill will now be transmitted to the other chamber for committee referral and consideration.

original floor action for bills originating in their own chamber (House bills must pass out of the House and Senate bills must pass out of the Senate).
As a point of interest, six bills were filed from Representatives and Senators that bring forward the code section that addresses the disciplinary actions of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission. This means that Senators and Representatives (Republican and Democrat) from all over the state, introduced legislation that could amend or change the law on the disciplinary proceedings of the Mississippi Real Estate Commission.
As part of this process, SB 2624 sponsored by Senator Mike Thompson was called up and amended by the Senate Business & Financial Institutions Committee on February 2, 2021 with a conceptual amendment. The committee substitute posted by the Senate docket room on February 11, 2021, is here: http://billstatus.ls.state.ms.us/documents/2021/dt /SB/2600-2699/SB2624CS.pdf
This bill seeks to address due process concerns that have been repeatedly expressed by our members through surveys, meetings and conversations over several years. Specifically, it creates a three-year pilot program that allows licensees to request a hearing from an impartial third-party administrative hearing o"icer (licensed attorney) rather than a hearing where the presiding o"icers are active licensees.

The hearing o"icer will be appointed from a list of qualified attorneys approved by
