                       Region: Santana Formation, Araripe Basin, Brazil





                       Coleoptera, or beetles, represent the most numerous class of insects. All the Coleop-
                       tera fossils seen to date are identical to those living today. In the same way that no
                       living species that has ever lived has changed in any way, the Coleoptera have also
                       come down to the present day just as they were first created.
