A Beetle from the Order Coleoptera
Period: Cretaceous
Age: 125 million years
Region: Santana Formation, Araripe Basin, Brazil
Coleoptera, or beetles, represent the most numerous class of insects. All the Coleop-
tera fossils seen to date are identical to those living today. In the same way that no
living species that has ever lived has changed in any way, the Coleoptera have also
come down to the present day just as they were first created.
