Lacewing (Chrysopa)
Period: Cretaceous
Age: 125 million years
Region: Santana Formation, Araripe Basin, Brazil
This delicate life form belongs to the family Chrysopidae, from the order Neuropte-
ra. These animals are found in North America and Europe and are able to detect
the ultrasounds emitted by bats. When they detect the ultrasounds used by bats
in order to locate them, they fold their wings up and fall to the ground, thus es-
caping the bat. Living things with this ability were created with the same features
millions of years ago as they possess today.
