Ground Cricket

                     Period: Cretaceous

                     Age: 125 million years

Region: Santana Formation, Araripe Basin, Brazil

The great majority of crickets, part of the family Tet-
tigoniidae, live in tropical regions. There are more
than 225 species in North America alone. Ground cric-

kets have remained the same, unaltered, for millions of
years. The 125-million-year-old ground cricket fossil in
the picture is another significant confirmation of this fact.
