Pleasant Words from the Gospel
See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bit-
ter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. (Hebrews,
12:15)
Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good,
your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad,
your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light
within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is
full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely light-
ed, as when the light of a lamp shines on you. (Luke, 11:34-36)
Therefore keep watch. But understand this: If the owner of the
house had known at what time of night the thief was coming,
he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be
broken into. So you also must be ready, because the son of
man [Jesus] will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
(Matthew, 24:42-44)
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert
builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one
should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foun-
dation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If
any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly
stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it
is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with
fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. (1
Corinthians, 3:10-13)
These things happened to them as examples and were written
down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages
has come. So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful
that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what
