Pleasant Words from the Gospel
were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in
need and prayed to God regularly. (Acts, 10:1-2)
Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the
brothers, even though they are strangers to you. They have told
the church about your love. You will do well to send them on
their way in a manner worthy of God. For they went out for
the sake of the Name [for the approval of God], accepting noth-
ing from the Gentiles. We ought therefore to show hospitality
to such men so that we may work together for the truth. (3
John, 1:5-8)
... Mary [called Magdalene] from whom seven demons had
come out; Joanna the wife of Cuza, the manager of Herod's
household; Susanna; and many others. These women were
contributing from their own resources to support Jesus and
his disciples. (Luke, 8:2-3)
In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha [which, when
translated in Greek, is called Dorcas], who was always doing
good and helping the poor. (Acts, 9:36)
When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers encour-
aged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. On
his arrival he greatly helped those who, through God's grace,
had believed. (Acts, 18:27)
If any woman who is a believer has widows in her family, she
should help them and not let the church be burdened with
them, so that the church can help those widows who are real-
ly in need. (1 Timothy, 5:16)
Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your
