Pleasant Words from the Gospel
If it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to
the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership,
let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it
cheerfully. (Romans, 12:8)
John answered, "The man with two tunics should share with
him who has none, and the one who has food should do the
same". (Luke, 3:11)
Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitali-
ty. (Romans, 12:13)
Then Jesus said to his host, "When you give a luncheon or din-
ner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or
your rich neighbors; if you do, they may invite you back and so
you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the
poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be
blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at
the resurrection of the righteous." (Luke, 14:12-14)
But Zacchaeus stood up and said... "Here and now I give half
of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody
out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount." Jesus
said to him, "Today salvation has come to this house, because
this man, too, is a son of Abraham. (Luke, 19:8-9)
Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put
and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple
treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. But a poor
widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth on-
ly a fraction of a penny. Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said,
"I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the
