Fasting
When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for
they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting... But
when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face,
so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but
only to your God, Who is unseen; and your God, Who sees
what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew, 6:16-18)
... She never left the temple but worshiped night and day,
fasting and praying. (Luke, 2:36-37)
... Then Jesus... after fasting forty days and forty nights, he
was hungry. (Matthew, 4:1-2)
For John came neither eating nor drinking... (Matthew,
11:18; Luke, 7:33)
The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I
thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers,
adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a
week and give a tenth of all I get.' (Luke, 18:11-12)
While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting... So after
they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on
them and sent them off... (Acts, 13:2-3)
