Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain. O Allah, give us rain."
By Allah, at that time there were no clouds in the sky and there was
no house or build ing be tween the moun tain and us. From be hind
the moun tain came a cloud look ing like a shield. By the time it
reached the mid dle of the sky, it burst and start ed to rain. 35
Companions who re ceived our Prophet's
(saas) prayers and re mained young
Allah says in the Qur'an that our Prophet (saas) was very
at tached to the be liev ers: "A Messenger has come to you from
among your selves. Your suf fer ing is dis tress ing to him, he is
deep ly con cerned for you, and he is gen tle and mer ci ful to the
be liev ers" (Surat al-Tawba: 128). In the had iths, he made many
rec om men da tions about their health, se cu ri ty, and faith, all the
while ap proach ing them with mer cy and com pas sion. One re -
sult of this love and at tach ment was that he prayed for many
things on their be half. Allah states in the Qur'an:
… pray for them. Your prayers bring re lief to them. Allah is
All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (Surat al-Tawba: 103)
Thus, his prayers for be liev ers brought them rest and
peace of mind. Similarly, the had iths say that he prayed for
long life for his Companions and that these prayers were an -
swered. Some of these Companions are men tioned by name:
Ibn Abi Shaybah re lat ed from Abu Nu`aym and Ibn al-Asakir: He
caused the Prophet to drink milk. The Prophet prayed to Him: "O
Allah, may He make the most of his youth." 36
Other had iths men tion how his prayers made some of the
Companions con tin ue to look young even when they were
