prayed for long lives lived for 100 years. He stroked the head
of an oth er Companion and prayed: "O Allah, make him beau -
ti ful and make that beau ty long-last ing." That Companion's
face re mained young and hand some un til he died. 38
The grant ing of our Prophet's (saas)
prayers for bless ing
Our Prophet (saas) was in ter est ed in his Companions'
prob lems and did what he could to help them. By the will of
Allah, his prayers for them al ways re sult ed in bless ings and
heal ing. There are many ex am ples of this in the had iths, sev er -
al of which are giv en here:
Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim re late from Anas: The Prophet
said: "O Allah, give him (i.e., Anas) prop er ty and chil dren and
bless him." Thus I am one of the rich est Ansaris and have had nu -
mer ous chil dren. 39
The Prophet said to 'Abd ar-Rahman ibn 'Awf: "May Allah make
you plen ti ful." Ibn Sa`d and al-Bayhaqi re late this from an oth er
source and add: `'Abd ar-Rahman said: "I have be come so wealthy
that which ev er stone I raise I know I will find ei ther gold or sil -
ver." 40
The Prophet prayed for al-Baraqi. He reached such a lev el in com -
merce that he knew that even if he sold soil he would earn from it. 41
Abu 'U qayl said that when his grand fa ther 'Ab dul lah ibn Hisham
went to the mar ket to buy wheat, he met Ibn al-Zubayr and Ibn
'Um ar, who said: "Be our part ner, be cause the Prophet prayed for
plen ty for you." At that, he shared his wheat with them. Yet his
cam el load nev er grew less due to this abun dance. He re turned
home with it. 42
