me like clay... [Did you not] clothe me with
skin and flesh, and knit me together with
                                        bones and sinews? (Job 10:8-11)
The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of
the Almighty gives me life. (Job 33:4)
I am just like you before God; I too have been
                                        taken from clay. (Job 33:6)

                                         THE SELFISH SELF WILL

                                        ALWAYS COMMAND EVIL

And [I swear by] the self and what
proportioned it, with depravity or con-
sciousness of Allah, he who purifies it
                                        has succeeded. (Surat ash-Shams, 7-9)
But people are prone to selfish greed.
If you do good and guard against evil,
Allah is aware of what you do. (Surat
                                        an-Nisa', 128)

[Joseph said,] I do not say my self was
free from blame. The self indeed com-
mands to evil acts—except for those
my Lord has mercy on… (Surah Yusuf,
                                        53)

                                        Gospel

Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal
body, so that you obey its evil desires.
                                        (Romans 6:12)
