33. The enslavement of the Egyptians:

The people of Sham will take prisoner the communities of Egypt... (Ibn
Hajar al-Haythami, Al-Qawl al-Mukhtasar fi 'Alamat al-Mahdi al-

As stat ed ear li er, Sham (Damascus) is the re gion lo cat ed on the
west ern part of Hijaz, where Mecca and Medina are lo cat ed. Today, Is-
rael is one of the coun tries lo cat ed in this re gion. Consequently, this had -
ith may well hint at Israel's war with Egypt and her oc cu pa tion of Egypt-
ian lands. On October 26, 1956, Israel, with British and French sup port,
at tacked Egypt and be gan to oc cu py the Sinai Peninsula. The fight ing
end ed short ly aft er wards, fol low ing in ter ven tion by the United States
and the United Nations, and a UN peace keep ing force was sta tioned on
the Israeli bor der.
Another con flict be tween Israel and Egypt was the Six-Day War in
1967, dur ing Israeli troops took pris on er a large num ber of Egyptians, and
a large num ber of Egyptians were killed.
