against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. God fight them! How
they are perverted!" (Surat al-Munafiqun, 4).
Even though hypocrites who appear as Muslims on the outside manage to
speak well with high-flown articulation, they are actually weak, instable, character-
less, undignified creatures described in the verse as 'propped-up planks of wood.'
God explicitly informs that they are 'the enemy'; that is why hypocrites would
watch for any opportunity they could show their hostility. They are ready to per-
petrate all sorts of enmity and evil against Muslims, so they spare 'no abnormal
behavior, deviance or perversion in doing this.' For instance, they 'even see no

harm in getting in contact with dangerous people.' On the contrary, establishing
intimate relationships with such perilous and dreadful individuals gives hypocrites
'an irreligious form of excitement'. They take a devilish pleasure because of their
treachery.
Muslims strongly avoid this evil world of abnormal, aberrant, and perverted
people fallen into deviation. While they avoid making contact with such depraved
persons and even keep away from being in the same room and breathing the same
air with them, hypocrites consider their intimacy to be a secret achievement when
they do. This enhances their self-confidence in an evil way. As their treachery grows
more in multitudes, so does their level of hypocrisy and this gives them great con-
fidence.
Muslims appraise every matter based on the teachings of the Qur'an. Therefore,
arguments like 'what other people think', 'the requisites of the era', 'the facts of
life', 'modernity', 'enlightenment', 'reform', and 'keeping up with the times' would
be invalid. If God is not pleased with an activity, deed, attitude, behavior, a
person or persons, then so does a Muslim. Muslims approach matters with the
perspective of God following His criterion.
That being so, a believer knows that twisted logics like, "one needs to be toler-
ant, understanding, and merciful towards a deviant behavior" comes from satan's
suggestions. Of course, Muslims are the most compassionate and understanding
people in the society. But their distinctions of what is right and wrong are always
in compliance with the Qur'an. Therefore, Muslims would never approach the
acts of people who engage in perverted behaviors, which God does not approve
of and reveals as a deviance in the Qur'an, with respect and acceptance–in the
name of being merciful.
Yet, this does not mean sanctioning any physical or spiritual persecution
implemented towards such people. Muslims prescribe that every wrong action
should be corrected through 'ideas'. Making someone embrace an idea by means
of coercion or force, or disabusing him or her of a deviant affair by using pressure
