                                       Fasting


                So we fast ed and pe ti tioned our God about this, and He an -
                swered our prayer. (Ezra, 8:23)

                I... fast ed and prayed be fore the God of heav ens. (Nehemiah, 1:4)


                They fast ed that day un til even ing... (Judges, 20:26)

                ... On that day they fast ed.. ( 1 Samuel, 7:6)

                ... He... put on sack cloth and fast ed. He lay in sack cloth and
                went around meek ly. (1 Kings, 21:27)


                On the twen ty-fourth day of the same month... gath ered to -
                geth er, fast ing and wear ing sack cloth and threw earth on
                their heads. (Nehemiah, 9:1)

                So you go to the house of the Lord on a day of fast ing and
                read to the peo ple from the scroll the words of the Lord... A
                time of fast ing be fore the Lord was pro claimed... (Jeremiah,
                36:6, 9)

                So I turned to the Lord God and plead ed with Him in prayer
                and pe ti tion, in fast ing, and in sack cloth and ash es. (Daniel,
                9:3)

                Declare a ho ly fast; call a sa cred as sem bly. Summon the elders
                and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God,
                and cry out to the Lord. (Joel, 1:14)


                This is what the Lord Almighty says: "The fasts of the fourth,
                fifth, sev enth and tenth months will be come joy ful and glad
                oc ca sions and hap py fes ti vals... Therefore love truth and
                peace." (Zechariah, 8:19)
