This peculiar animal, with its bird’s head,
8 dragon’s body and tiger’s legs and tail, is
adapted from a design on a copper mirror from
the Warring States Period. Make sure the curva-
ture of both tails projects balance and grace.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
1.Tie a round brocade knot with compound outer
loops for the head. Sixteen loops are used here.
Wrap every second ear loop. After tightening the
knot, pull the cord ends out from the neck and
dig out another cord in the head (or lengthen the
loop between the two cord ends to make a bro-
ken line) to give four cord ends.
2.Tie the four cord ends into a compound double
coin knot for the body. Play around with the cord
density to achieve the best possible curvature.
Fold the cords in the leg to form the knee.
