This double dragon and tortoise design is
9adapted from a Tang Dynasty copper mirror.
The dragons’ bodies are made from a series of
variously woven double coin knots.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
1. See pages 68–9, Chinese Knotting: Creative
Designs That Are Easy and Fun! for instructions
on making a dragon’s head.Tie the head twice
to make it bigger.Tie the outer loops into double
coin knots to form the horn. Use a single cord to
tie the neck.
2. Use other cords to tie a broad double coin knot
to make the rest of the body above the tail. At a
suitable place, pull out a single cord end and tie
a long double coin knot for each paw.Tie a round
brocade knot to make the claws.
3.To form the shell of the tortoise, tie a pan chang
knot as hexagonal knots with reduced cords.
