This knot formation is an excellent teaching aid because it combines
62the knotting techniques of the pan chang knot with shared ear loops,
the shiftweave pan chang knot, as well as the pan chang knot with compound
and overlapping outer loops. The special weaves are highlighted with a different
color paint to give the formation an owl-like appearance. The formation is suit-
able for hanging on a wall.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
1.Tie a big and a small shiftweave pan chang knot, the former with a one up,
one down 180-degree shift, and the latter with a two up, two down 90-degree
shift. Combine the two using the ear loop sharing technique.
2.Tie a button knot below the main knot as a seat for the “owl.”However, there
should be no cloverleaf knot on the side of the formation next to the wall.
