Constellation Knot with Compound Outer Loops
This modified knot shares the same knotting technique as the constellation knot
except that the knotting sequence of certain ear loops is changed, as in the case of the
round brocade knot with compound outer loops (page 59). The butterfly knot with
compound outer loops shown here is made by wrapping the tenth and fourth ear
loops.
TYING INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1. Make ear loop 1. Step 2. Make ear loop 3 and wrap around 1. Step 3. Make ear
loop 4 and wrap around 1 and 3. Step 4. Turn back the cord end to make ear loop 2,
wrap around 1 and pull through 3 and 4. Step 5. Make ear loop 5 and wrap around
1, 2, 3 and 4. Step 6. Make ear loop 6, pull through 1 and wrap around 2, 3, 4, 5 and
1. Step 7. Make ear loop 9, pull through 4, wrap around 5 and 6, pull through 1, 2 and
3 and wrap around 4. Step 8. Make ear loop 7, pull through 2, wrap around 3, 4, 5 and
6, pull through 9 and 1 and wrap around 2. Step 9. Make ear loop 8, pull through 3,
wrap around 4, 5, 6, and 7, pull through 9, 1 and 2 and wrap around 3. Step 10. Make
ear loop 10, pull through 5, wrap around 6, 7, 8 and 9, pull through 1, 2, 3 and 4 and
wrap around 5.
HINT
During the tightening process, make sure that both sides and the curvature of each
ear loop are identical.
