Why has this been developed?
Dairy farmers, and their teams, have a wealth of learning
and development opportunities available throughout their 2
career, across industry, from various industry partners and
professionals. These are summarised in the DISR (Dairy
Industry Standard Roles) developed by DairyNZ.
To help support the capability conversation that our field
team have with our customers, and for each learner to have
their own blended learning and development “industry”
capability plan to reach and achieve their career aspirations,
we developed the Primary Industry Capability Planner ‘tool’.
This tool integrates all learning opportunities into each of
the six farm team roles – Farm prepared (induction); Farm
Assistant; Herd Manager; Assistant Manager; Farm Manager;
Business Operations Manager – and aligns formal and non-
formal learning, and rewards/recognition/support, with the
competencies required for each role.
