is likely therefore that the family moved to Cliffe shortly before
John F went to school there – around Christmas 1919.
Incidentally William’s father, Frederick, and his family, had
moved to Cliffe by May 1919
as his youngest daughter,
Lily registered at the village
school at that date. Family
oral history says that he came
to work for the Brassey estate
at Apethorpe.
No record of William can
be found in the available
military records. He had not
volunteered before 1916
so it is likely that he was
conscripted late in the war –
he was 38 years old by 1918.
He was probably released
before the end of 1919, which
triggered the move to Kings
Cliffe, where his parents
already resided.
