The town where we live - Nazareth
Our second day was about Oakham - the town we all live in, or near to, and the place where our church is. This is “home” for us - and so I wanted to write something about home and our relationship with it.
Jesus went to his home town - and was roundly and violently rejected by it. This short narrative in Luke has always intrigued me - not the part where the people didn’t like the idea of the young boy they remembered coming back and making some pretty ambitious claims about himself - but more the end of the story. When it says that Jesus simply walked through the crowd and went on his way.
What happened here? It doesn’t say that Jesus said anything - and presumably it would have been recorded if he did. So it seems that there was something about his presence, the glint in his eye, that told the town folks that they had better not go any further.
