Called into the world - Paul
Paul was called into Jesus service through a dramatic experience when he met the Saviour on the road to Damascus. As a result, he would spend the rest of his life seeking to bring the non-Israelites - the Gentiles, to faith in God, through Jesus as their saviour.
At the time of his conversion, he was on his way to Damascus on a mission to root out the Christians there and destroy them.
Whilst his conversion was undoubtedly dramatic, and we tend to think of Paul as a strong and unshakeable warrior of the gospel, he was far from this at the moment of his meeting with Christ on the road. It seems likely that, as he was led into the city to ultimately meet Ananias and start his ministry, he was torn by the amazing spiritual experience he had just had in one part of his consciousness, and the human doubts and fear that he felt in the other.
