From Bath
Using the interactive map find your way to the A36, which curves around the southern side of the
city.
Getting out of the city is confusing because the signs are not consistent. You’ll follow the A36 then
the signs suddenly start saying “Bristol A4 / Wells A39”.
Follow those signs.
0.0 mi 51.3774,-2.3614 You will make a curving right hand turn and pass underneath a railway
overbridge. Turn left on to Lower Bristol Rd.
Expert navigator checkpoint: You will shortly pass an Esso service station on the left.
3.3 mi 51.3861,-2.4304 At the r/bout (traffic lights) take the 2nd exit on to the A39 s/posted “Wells
A39 / Weston-s-Mare (A368)”.
Pass through Corston and Marksbury.
3.6 mi 51.3570,-2.4843 Just past Marksbury go str. ahd on to the A368 s/posted “Weston-s-
Mare”.
Expert navigator checkpoint: The Esso service station should be on the left after that
intersection.
2.7 mi 51.3546,-2.5407 Pass through Chelwood and at the r/bout go str. ahd s/posted “Weston-
s-Mare A368”

the distance ahead of you.
At times you may wonder if I am taking you on a backwoods trip. Well, yes, I am, but it’s the
easiest way from here to Cheddar.
6.2 mi 51.3087,-2.6437 You will pass through the village of West Harptree and shortly after turn
left on to Harptree Hill s/posted “Cheddar 6”
Expert navigator tip: This turn is not at all well signposted. The “Cheddar 6” sign is just a simple
black-on-white sign. .
0.7 mi 51.3006,-2.6537 About 50 yards after passing the Wellsway Inn on the right, turn right.
Expert navigator tip: This turn is not signposted. The Wellsway Inn is your marker point.
0.3 mi Turn left. It’s the first left turn after the previous Wellsway Inn turn.
Expert navigator tip: This turn is not signposted. The only indicator is a sign “This road liable to
flooding”.
1.2 mi 51.2929,-2.6818 Continue on to the B3371.
2.2 mi 51.2769,-2.7251 At the Give Way turn right on to the B3135 s/posted “Cheddar Gorge”.
