Go underneath the stone gateway. The parking attendant is very helpful and will guide you to a
parking place.
Expert navigator hint: At the left turn from New St look for Prezzo on the right as you make the
turn. You’ll then see the stone gateway ahead of you.
Dorchester to Salisbury Via Sherborne

Main attractions along the way are
Sherborne: Sherborne Castle (pictured) in
this lovely little town was built by Sir Walter
Raleigh in 1594.
Sherborne Abbey is famous for its beautiful
fan vaulting and a Saxon doorway which
has survived from the time the abbey was
founded in the 8th century.

Also worth a look are the Almshouses and the Sherborne Steam and Waterwheel Centre.
Minterne Housesand Gardens. Landscaped in the manner of Capability Brown the gardens here
are laid out in a horseshoe below Minterne House. The trail is around a mile in length.
The gardens are a world renowned and completely unique collection of
Himalayan Rhododendrons and Azaleas, with spring bulbs, cherries, maples
and many other rare trees. There is also a chain of small lakes, waterfalls and
streams.
The Cerne Abbas Giant. The figure of a naked man carrying a club cut into
the chalk hills – said to have been there for about 1500 years, but more likely
