Make your way to either the A28 on the eastern side of the town, or St Peters Pl and Rheims Way
on the A290 on the western side of the town. Either way, travel more or less south until you reach
Wincheap Roundabout at the i/s of Pin Hill / Castle St / Rheims Way which is the intersection of
the A290 and A28.

0.0 mi 51.2748, 1.0742 Take the A28 south west on a street called Wincheap following s/p to
“Ashford A28”.

Expert navigator checkpoint: Shortly after that roundabout you will pass under a railway
overbridge.

You shortly pass over the A2 then simply follow the A28 which in its early reach is called the
Ashford Rd but then becomes the Canterbury Rd.

12.1 mi 51.1641, 0.8951 At the r/bout take the second exit on to Willesborough Rd s/p “(M20) /
Brenzett A2070”. Follow on to Kennington Rd.

You will come to a large interchange with the M20. Get into the centre lane as you approach the
roundabout. The road marking says “B2070”.

2.2 mi 51.1366, 0.9105 Take the 3rd exit s/p “Hastings B2070 / Ashford / Sevington”. That will
take you on to Bad Munstereifel Rd (Yes – that really is its name).

Go str through the next r/bout.

1.9 mi 51.1256, 0.8777 Look for a b+w sign that indicates an exit l. s/p “Hamstreet”. Take that exit
s/p “Hastings A2070 / Lydd / Hamstreet”.

0.3 mi At the r/bout take the 2nd exit s/p “Hastings A2070 / Lydd”.

Expert navigator checkpoint: Shortly after that roundabout look for a green and white sign on
the l. “Hamstreet 5 / Brenzett 9”

Go str. ahd at the next r/bout.

9.3 mi 51.0070, 0.8579 Go str. through the r/bout s/p to Brookland on to Straight Lane. The Shell
service station will be on your left as you exit.

Go str thru the next r/bout.

7.5 mi 51.9530, 0.7362 At the small r/bout as you approach Rye on New Rd, take the 1st left on to
Fishmarket Rd, the A259. At that turn Skinners Garage is straight in front of you.

0.6 mi 50.95496, 0.7296 Rye.

As you sweep around South Undercliff (A259) the town centre is over to your right. The Rye
Heritage Centre will be on your r. at this point. There’s parking in a side street. The famous
Mermaid Inn is up Mermaid St to your r.
