THE ENEMY IN-A-ME

After the pastor had prayed and laid hands on each man and sent them
back to their seats, he turned and looked at me, for I was the only man in the
building that didn't get up and go to the front. For I said in myself; “I’m a
visitor, I’m just here to watch and observe”, and besides out of all the

men there, there was just a handful of black men with me being one of
them, and I wondered is this the way white people do church.

Well it seemed to me that his eyes stayed on me as he was bringing the
service to a close, and if I could have I would have gotten up and walked out
but my wife somehow knew that we were destined to be there that Sunday
morning. Without a hint or the pastor saying think fast or heads up, a book
was soaring through the air heading right toward me. I caught the book and
I don’t even remember my hand going up to catch it, but there it was, right
there in my possession and it was a book written by Edwin Louis Cole
entitled ‘Maximized Manhood’ A Guide to Family Survival.

The service nally ended and that wasn’t soon enough for me. I rushed my
wife and daughter to the car and headed away from there as fast as I could.
As we normally do, we stopped at a restaurant to have lunch and once we
got inside I noticed that I still had that book in my hand. Well dinner was
short that day and instead of visiting family or friends we ended up at home.
I changed clothes and thought I was going to settle down and watch some
television, but that burning and stirring was still erupting inside of me and
I’m guessing that this is what the two disciples were feeling when Jesus met
them on the road to Emmaus and started telling them what was written
through all the prophets, pointing out everything in the Scriptures that
referred to Him. For they said, "Didn't our hearts burn as He conversed with

us on the road, as He opened up the Scriptures for us?"

I went and got the book and just stared at it for about ten minutes and then
I nally opened it and started to read and what I read hit me in the face like a
ton of bricks. For at that moment off the pages of that book, I heard a voice
cry out asking me the hard question that I didn't want to answer saying, “If
you are committing adultery, fornication, homosexuality, incest, or habitual
masturbation; indulging in pornography; gratifying yourself with sexual
fantasies or any other kind of sex sin, I command you in the name of Jesus
