                                                     Cuban Bread


                            This is an easy yeast bread that takes only 1 hour and 15 minutes from start to finish

                                                 3‐4 cups all purpose flour

                                                 2 cups whole wheat flour


                                                    2 tablespoons yeast

                                                    2 tablespoons sugar

                                                      2 teaspoons salt

                                            2 cups hot water 120‐130 degrees

                                           1 tablespoon sesame or poppy seeds


                    1.  Mix whole wheat flour and 2 cups of the white flour.

                    2.  Add yeast, sugar and salt. Mix well.


                    3.  Pour in water and beat 100 strokes or 3 minutes.

                    4.  Stir in remaining flour.

                    5.  Knead 8 minutes.

                    6.  Place dough in greased bowl and cover with damp towel.

                    7.  Let rise 15 minutes.

                    8.  Punch down and divide in two pieces. Shape into two round loaves.

                    9.  Place on baking sheet.

                    10. With a sharp knife, cut an “X” into the top of the bread 1/2 inch deep.

                    11. Brush with water and sprinkle with seeds.


                    12. Place on middle shelf of cold oven.

                    13. Place cake pan of HOT WATER on lowest shelf.

                    14. Heat oven to 400 degrees and bake 40‐50 minutes until deep golden brown.
