“No Tittering at the Table”
Robert Herndon Davison with sons, Paul, Earl, and Bill
Stop Tittering at the Table!
“We weren’t allowed to make a lot of confusion at the table, laughing and stuff. It was
more serious. And when we were sitting at the table we weren’t supposed to be cutting up
and Dad would say he didn’t want any of that tittering at the table. And then my brother
Paul would lean over and whisper “stop tittering!” And he would get me to laugh and I
would get sent away from the table. Then I would crawl back in under the table by Paul and
he would hand me down something to eat, like a biscuit.” Earl Davison from the transcript
of an interview in 2003
