“My brother Jim was the oldest, then Frances, then Mitchell,
then Bob, then Paul, then Bill and I was the baby. I was about

10 years old when my mother died. She was buried on my
brother Bill’s birthday. He was about 12, I guess. Bill used to
do most of the cooking of breakfast and supper after our
mother died. It was just Bill and me and Dad. Frances was

married but she would generally come down and do our
laundry for us. Then for a little while Mitchell and Jenny lived
with us, but not too long. They just had Donna then. She was

                                                            just a baby.

My mom had already passed away when we moved to Mt
Auburn. She died when we lived on Vine Street. Me and Bill
was going out for groceries when she passed away. We came

back in. I saw Bill crying so that made me cry. If he hadn’t
cried I don’t think I would have cried. I don’t know why, but it
seems like I never wanted to cry much about anything. But if I
seen other people cry, I cried. Frances was there, but I don’t

remember who else was there at that time. Frances kind of
helped to take care of our mother quite a bit. I think they
might of lived there at that time, I don’t know, but they might

have already moved by then. I really don’t know. Mom was
sick for a long time. I don’t know how long. Seemed like all
                                                            the time sick to me.”

Earl Davison from recorded interview 2003
