SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY

& INDUSTRIAL ENGAGEMENT

In tandem with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) and UUM’s aspiration to become a management reference
centre in quintuple helix innovation, Thrust 3 on Sustainable Community
& Industrial Engagement is considered as one of the important pillars
of UUM’s Strategic Plan. The Thrust highlights three focal dimensions,
namely, the community, industry and environment in order to achieve its
prime objective of building a stronger and more impactful relationship
with the community and industry. As the name implies, the community
dimension deals with the University’s commitment to its surrounding
community by engaging in knowledge transfer programmes and social
innovation in order to increase their knowledge, skills and standard of living.
The Industry dimension relates to the University’s active engagement with
industries in order to stimulate high-impact projects that bring benefits to
both parties. The environment dimension upholds the SDGs’ noble idea
of preserving the earth and nature. Three strategies under this Thrust
are: (1) increasing funding for community/industrial engagement; (2)
strengthening engagement with the community; and (3) strengthening
140 the impact of industrial synergy. In order to measure achievements under
Thrust, three KPIs and 34 PIs are used.
