The Man on Dark Lane

                                                     Chapter 2

It was Friday 2 weeks before Halloween. Like any normal kid's dolorous Friday, they would be at school. It was my first day at

this private school and my body was filled with cold shivers as I slowly walked to the bus stop. I cautiously stepped on the big
yellow bus. It was like I was a camera except everyone was staring at me with daunting eyes. The only person that was not

staring at me was a shy girl sitting at the front of the bus by herself. I sat down next to her and she looked at me in an
interesting way. I could tell we would be friends.

“Hi my name is Madelaine.” she said as she ploddingly looked up to me!

Enthusiastically I bellowed, “HI my name is Esme, I like your top!”

Our conversation continued till we got to school.

        1 day before Halloween night

On our way from school we found out we’re neighbours. I told her all the stories of the man on Halloween. She started
getting creeped out so I stopped talking about it.

         Halloween night 4:30

Madelaine and I we’re walking along my street. I felt an old wrinkled hand brush my arm. I screamed in shock, grabbed

Madelaine's hand and ran in a rush dragging her behind me.

Once I ran out of breath, I stopped running. But my mind was thinking of all the possibilities that, that unusual feeling was.
Suddenly silence hit the air. A cold breeze brushed the hair out of my face and I saw a shadow rush past me and hurriedly go

behind the massive green bush, 5 metres away. It felt like someone was watching me with a daring stare. But no one was
around me. I screamed out “MADELAINE” but she didn’t answer. As I continued to yell “MADELAINE” I heard a hissing voice

        whisper she's gone.

I paused for a second in shock as I heard the sibilating voice again, “she's gone, you're too late”. I started shivering like I was
veritably cold and it felt like I couldn’t breathe. I started getting really stressed out. I started worrying what was happening

to me! I heard a banging noise in my ear and started to run back to my house as fast as I could. When I got a chance to
breathe. I looked around in silence hoping the thing was gone. But then the ground began to shake like it was a 9.3

earthquake. When I looked at the creepy old man's house he stood in the window with a daunting stare, staring at me.

I heard a hushed voice go through the wind and a force trying to push me over. In a few seconds the sky was black. Something

ran past me, I closed my eyes and when I opened them back up I was in a messy trashed room where a light was flickering. As I
walked slowly towards the dull flickering light a screeching noise started getting louder. A faint voice screamed Esme.
