Chapter three
Though the doors and windows were closed a harsh wind still snuck in through cracks in the walls
and floor boards. The orphanage was a cold and lonely place that housed the many kids whose
parents had died or been unable to look after them. It had two new recruits who had arrived on
their doorstep after their mother had died of heartbreak, starvation and maybe… something else.
Audrey sat up in her bed and looked at her brother's sleeping form. “John!” she whispered as
loudly as she dared. His two blue eyes blinked open and he too sat up.
“Why are you up?” breathed Audrey.
“I Couldn’t sleep,”
“Me neither,” a loud pushing silence filled the full room. “I miss-” Audrey was cut short as her
brother covered her mouth with his hand.
”Shhh! He said desperately and then carefully uncovered her mouth. John then hurriedly lept out
of bed and raced to the window. He threw it open and grabbed his sister's hand. “You ready?” He
didn't wait for her answer. They jumped.
The door flew open and two burly men shoved their way in with the owner of the orphanage
behind them.. “Stay here” the first one said and with a nod they separated and began to search
the room.
“Where are they!?” one of them roared as he reached the end of the room.
“I-I I don’t know sir. They went to bed six hours ago.” stammered the owner.
Right on cue the wind blew in through the open window and the men turned. They ran to the
window and yelled as they saw the twins in the distance running towards the horizon. “Boss is not
going to be happy,” the second man whispered, turning around to stare at the owner. The owner
gulped.
The same two men waited outside the throne room and listened to the poor owner of the
orphanage screams. The door opened and a servant beckoned them to come in. They gulped as
