Manchester United Women will travel to Malta in January 2023 to participate in a week-long winter
training camp, before taking on Maltese First Division champions Birkirkara F.C. in a mid-season
friendly.
Building on their successful start to the season, Marc Skinner and his coaching staff will travel
to Malta in the first week of January, as an opportunity to further enhance the side’s team spirit
ahead of a busy second half of the season, while enjoying Malta’s cultural experience.
During the squad’s visit, Manchester United Women will take on local side Birkirkara F.C at
Hibernians Stadium on the 6th January. Complementary tickets to the match will be given away by
the club and Manchester United’s Official Destination Partner, Visit Malta. To claim a
complementary ticket, visit https://tickets.manutd.com/en-GB/categories/womens and register
your details. Tickets will be issued at random via a ballot, with applicants notified via email.
Registration closes on 30th December.
Manchester United Women Head Coach, Marc Skinner, said: “We have a wonderful
partnership with the Club’s Official Destination Partner, Visit Malta and the opportunity to get our
girls back together after the Christmas break at Malta’s first class facilities, to set the objectives
ahead of a big second half of the season, is an excellent one for us.”
“The players can expect plenty of hard work on the grass, while enjoying the world-renowned
hospitality of the people of Malta, also home to one of our oldest Official Supporter’s Clubs in the
world. A privilege of being at Manchester United is having fans all over the world and we cannot wait
to spend some time with them and remind ourselves what it is to play for this wonderful football
club.”
Manchester United Head of Women’s Football, Polly Bancroft, added: “This winter training
camp will be a great opportunity for us to build on the success we have already achieved so far this
season, allowing us to train within a different climate and culture, while experiencing the warmth of
our Maltese official supporter's club.
“Playing local side Birkirkara F.C. will allow our squad to compete against a diverse opponent,
away from their usual Carrington environment.”
Malta’s Minister for Tourism, the Hon Clayton Bartolo, said: “Malta being the official
destination partner of Manchester United is leading to Malta obtaining visibility and marketing
coordination on an unprecedented level, not just in Europe but in other markets such as America,
Asia and the Middle East. Welcoming Manchester United Women to the Maltese Islands is another
step forward in establishing our country as a centre of excellence for sports tourism.”
