Beecholme Belles 9 Old Tiffinians 0
Beecholme Belles enjoyed a South East
Counties League Surrey Division League Cup
win over Old Tiffinians, notching nine goals in
a sparkling display featuring a succession of
       long range strikes.
A shoot on sight policy worked well for
the Belles against a hard working Tiffs side who
       never gave up.
It did not take long for the Belles to open
the scoring as Bethan Stratten scored the first
and second of her hat-trick inside the first ten
minutes. Sophie Mair added the third with a
       powerful 20-yard effort before Stratten
completed her treble with arguably the goal of
the match, a lofted 35-yard lob which dropped Amy Potkins in a tussle with Hannah Dalgleish
just under the bar on 22 minutes. (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
Old Tiffs had occasional attacks but the
vast majority of efforts on goal were at the other end and another well hit shot, this
time by Hannah Bowles on 34 minutes, made it five.
When Dion Newton added the sixth and seventh goals with good finishes either
side of the break and it looked ominous for the visitors with over 40 minutes left to
play. In fact the Old Tiffinians showed considerable character to keep competing for
every ball whilst still under almost constant pressure with skipper Matilda Schwefel
and opposition player of the match Hannah Dalgleish leading the resistance.
Beecholme showed real urgency to add to their tally but were met with stern
resistance. Amy Potkins did add the eighth on 70 minutes with another long range
effort but it was only with the last kick of the match that the Old Tiffs defence was
beaten again by a good run and finish by Dionne Bird.
The newly constituted Surrey Divisions of the South East Counties League offer
a wide variety of clubs the chance to develop open age competitive football. Beecholme
Belles have a great reputation in age group girls football and are now developing a
senior set up whilst Old Tiffinians, established in 2021, are also working to provide
adult football to support the growing interest in the game especially after the Euro 22
       success.
