Good evening and a very warm welcome to everyone, including the
players, management, directors, and supporters of Cirencester Town
for this Southern League Challenge Cup tie. We hope you enjoy your
visit here and wish you a safe trip home.
Yate Town head into this evening’s fixture in good spirits after a a
slightly comfortable passage into yesterday’s FA 4Q Draw with a 3-0
home win over Combined Counties Leaguers Redhill, getting through
the 3Q stage for the first time in nine years. The Lobsters made Town
work hard for the win and proved to be a well-organised outfit who
deserve much credit for their fine run in this season's competition.
For Yate it continues a fine run of results and is the third home win
on the bounce and, with nine goals scored and none conceded, the
record is impressive.
Although playing conditions were not ideal on Saturday the ground
staff had worked hard and the playing surface stood up well to a day
of fairly heavy rain. Despite this both sides were able to move the ball
around relatively well and David Sims-Burgess and Ollie Mehew both
had chances as the home side dominated the early exchanges and a
powerful drive from Jamie Adams was blocked when it looked
destined to be on target.
Despite Town's greater possession it was Redhill who should have
gone in front in the 27th minute when Noe Vendrells headed against
the crossbar from close range following a run and cross from Nathan
Horgan. Mehew continued to cause the visiting defence problems
with his pace and, after doing well to retrieve the ball on the left, he
provided the cross for David Sims-Burgess to head in the opening
goal just before the break.
No-one was able to put the finishing touch to a Sam King cross
as Redhill attacked at the start of the second period before Joe
