Tumlety blasted over the crossbar after some clever footwork at the
other end and Joe Hall hit the upright after a short free kick routine.
A second goal was needed to lift the tension and this came on 74
minutes when Hall's low drive appeared to take a deflection as it
zipped in through a crowded goalmouth. Tumelty's expertly flighted
free kick minutes later made the tie safe although there was still time
for Mehew to shoot wide after another strong run and Hall to have
his curling effort saved by Jack Minchin in the Redhill goal. Joe
Tumelty was the MoM not only for a perfect free kick but also his
tireless display in midfield.
And so to this evening’s visitors who we seem to play with annual
regularity in this competition, swapping venues each time. Led by
one of our previous players Jake Lee, the Centurions come to the
South West Interiors Stadium with eight wins, three draws and only
one defeat in all competitions so far this season. That defeat was in
the FA Cup 3Q on Saturday to Hungerford and only by one goal in a
five goal thriller. They currently sit fourth in Division 1 South but with
games in hand on all the teams above them due to a solid FA Cup
run.
October promises to be an incredibly busy month for Yate with
another seven fixtures to cram in, five of these at home. We also
have re-arrangements to be agreed with Taunton Town and Harley
Wintney. The first of these is against Chesham United on Saturday so
hopefully see you there.
C’mon you Bluebells!
Regards,
Iain
