Good afternoon and a very warm welcome to everyone, including the
players, management, directors, and supporters of Beaconsfield
Town, who today make the journey to the down the M4 to the West
Country. We hope you enjoy your visit here and wish you a safe trip
home.
The original fixture was scheduled to be away but with Beaconsfield’s
new state of the art 3G pitch just being completed both clubs agreed
to reverse the fixture. For Roger Hawkins and his team a game in
September is preferred to hosting in December as per the original
date so a 'win-win’.
Last Saturday saw a vast improvement on our performance against
Truro City and demonstrated that all teams can have a dip in form.
David Sims-Burgess hit a double and was picked out as the star man
in a match where we had to work hard against a side who played for
most of the game with ten men. It was the visitors' Elliott Wheeler
who saw red in an early Yate attack after he got into a mix-up with
goalkeeper Albert White and then held back Ricardo Rees on the
edge of the penalty area. The free kick that followed came to nothing
but the home side went on to dominate the first half without creating
any real clear cut chances. Rees went close on one occasion and Joe
Tumelty blasted over the crossbar from a good position. It was
Gosport who might have taken the lead at the start of the second
period but covering defenders and Andy Hannah were able to crowd
out Joe Lea. Yate's persistence was rewarded with a 55th minute
breakthrough goal. Tumlety was dragged down as he turned quickly
into the box and Sims-Burgess beat White with the spot kick. A
second goal was needed to seal the tie and this arrived after 70
minutes as Ollie Mehew's sweeping run in from the left set up Sims-
Burgess whose powerful low shot zipped across the greasy surface
and into the far corner. Boro’ never gave up the fight with Theo
Widdrington, Sirigui Dembele and Patrick Suraci all testing Hannah
whose handling had been good throughout the game. At the other
end, James Harding tried his luck with a lob over the goalkeeper,
Tyron Mbuenimo clipped the crossbar with centre and Joe Hall
headed just wide from a Sam Turl cross. On the back of the FA Cup
victory the Bluebells earned a place in Monday’s draw and will meet
Redhill of the Combined Counties Premier Division in the 3rd
