In truth, there were few real upsets on Saturday. However, Division One South club Frome
Towns 2-1 success at Badger`s Hill against Vanarama National League South side Oxford
City was definitely one of them. Frome scored twice in the opening 45 minutes through James
Ollis and Joe O’Loughlin, with Oxford only managing a late reply from substitute Elliot Benyon.
Unbeaten Hayes & Yeading United comfortably saw off National League South side
Tonbridge Angels at the SKYex Community Stadium. The home side took a 27th minute lead
through Francis Amartey and then four minutes after half-time, Moses Emmanuel doubled
their lead. Hassan Jalloh made it game over with a third on 76 minutes and then Amos Nasha
on 83 minutes and Omar Rowe a minutes later made it a nap hand for Paul Hughes’ impressive
side.
Hayes’s league rivals Tiverton Town though were victims of an upset as they were beaten
3-1 at the Ian Moorcroft Stadium, Ladysmead by Division One South high-flyers Sholing. And
the Boatmen had to come back from the shock of conceding an early 4th minute Matt Wright
goal too. Joe Adams equalised after 14 minutes and then Claudio Herbert put the visitors in
front eight minutes before half-time. Dan Mason ensured there was to be no comeback from
the Devonians when he scored Sholing`s third in the 77th minute.
On the wrong end of a shock were another Premier Division South outfit, Chesham United,
as they lost to a 14th minute Andrew Crossley effort at Isthmian League South Central side
Chertsey Town.
Division One South newcomers Lymington Town held National League North visitors
Hereford FC to a 2-2 draw to earn a replay at Edgar Street on Tuesday. Lymington had a
great start when Owen Fee put them in front after just six minutes. The Bulls were back on
level terms on 22 minutes with Miles Storey on target and almost straight from the restart,
Tom Owen-Evans gave Josh Gowling’s side the lead. Lymington earned another crack at
reaching the Third Qualifying Round when Harry McGrath made it 2-2 on 65 minutes.
It`s a similar scenario for Division One Central new boys Ware, who battled back from two-
down to earn a 2-2 draw against National League South neighbours Hemel Hempstead
Town. It didn’t look good for home fans in the 347 crowd at Wodson Park when Gus Scott-
Morris in the 6th minute and then Freddie Hinds three minutes later, gave the Tudors a 2-0
lead. But Ware fought back and eventually reduced the deficit through Louis Rose with 20
minutes to go. And then as stoppage time ticked in, sub Liam Dulson popped up with the
home side’s equaliser to earn a replay at Vauxhall Road next week.
Premier Division South club Poole Town also have a second go at National League South
Chippenham Town after a 1-1 outcome at the Black Gold Stadium. Luke Burbidge gave the
Dolphins a 27th minute lead which Alex Bray cancelled out midway through the second half.
Of the all-Southern League ties, Yate Town beat Premier Division South rivals Gosport
Borough 2-0 at the South West Interiors Stadium. A brace from Dave Sims-Burgess sealed
the Bluebells passage, although Gosport had Elliot Wheeler sent-off after just nine minutes!
Another all-Premier Division South ties, Weston-super-Mare took full advantage of being at
home to Taunton Town, running out 5-1 winners with goals from Lloyd Humphries and Scott
Laird with two apiece and Dayle Grubb. Gethyn Hill with the Peacocks consolation from the
spot.
Aylesbury United hammered Hellenic League Premier Division side Bishops Cleeve 5-1 at
the Meadow. Ty Deacon with a brace, Max Hercules, Ben Seaton and a Jamie Jellis penalty
were the Ducks marksmen. They did finish with ten-men, however, when sub Kuda Sangoya
lashed out at one of the Cleeve players after a foul, but with the score at the time being 5-0,
there was little damage done, although the visitors did score a late consolation.
Division One South club Cirencester Town avoided a potential banana skin by beating
Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier side Hamworthy United 3-1 at the Corinium
Stadium. Josh Parsons, Joe Shepherd and Levi Irving were the Centurians on the mark.
A goal from Keith Emerson 11 minutes from time sealed National League South side
Hungerford Town`s passage at Bulpit Lane against Southern Premier Division South club
Truro City.
