PART OF ENGLAND FOOTBALL
Message from the League.
After a very disrupted couple of seasons it is a pleasure to once again be able to welcome
everyone to the Gordon Perrett Memorial Cup Final which we are pleased to be holding at
The Corinium Stadium in Cirencester this year.
I send a special welcome to Helen and Mike Millard from Gordon’s family who join us once
again for the final, Alexis Lunn-Gadd who many of you will know through her role as the GFA
Women’s and Girls officer before moving on to a new role at the FA, and Lucy Wellings the
FA Senior Women’s Football Clubs Manager.
Today’s final sees two teams who have each had a successful season, both finishing second
in their respective divisions. It is fabulous to see both teams in today’s final. Dursley Town
Ladies have been a solid part of the League for the last 20 years and it is great to see the
team thriving. Whilst being a relatively new member club in comparison Longwell Green
Ladies have established themselves as a strong part of the League.
With the delayed Women’s Euros competition being just around the corner and with it being
held in our own country the women’s game is going from strength to strength. We continue
to attract more media coverage than ever before and whilst I don’t anticipate there being
the 91,648 crowd which Barcelona Women recently attracted it is great to see you all here
today. As someone who has played in a cup final I know what it means to the players to have
your support on the day.
I believe the League is a credit to everyone behind the scenes that plays a part in grassroots
football, whether you be a player, manager, coach or secretary, alongside the GCWFL
committee members without whom the running of the league would not be possible. My
thanks go to each and every one of you.
We would like to wish both teams good luck in today’s final and I wish everybody an
enjoyable afternoon with an exciting game of football. Thank you all for your support.
Yours in sport
Helen Brain
