MESSAGES FROM THE TEAMS
Dursley Town Ladies
Ahead of the 2021/22 season, Dursley Town Ladies could scarcely have
believed that their 20th anniversary would be marked with the most
exciting campaign of their two-decade existence.
Founded in 2002, Town achieved promotion from Division Two of the
Gloucestershire County Women's League in only their second season, but
other than winning the now-defunct league five-a-side tournament around
the same time, success has consistently passed the club by.
This season, however, all expectations have been wildly exceeded. Not only
have Dursley reached today's Gordon Perrett League Cup final, but they
also reached the GFA Women's Trophy final before losing to Cirencester, and
pushed the vastly-better-resourced Bristol Rovers Development all the way
in the Division Two title race.
To reach today's final, Town beat Bristol & West 4-0 in round one with goals
from Emma Allen, Michelle Watson, Louise Pegler and Aine Redmond, while
Stoke Lane were dispatched 7-0 in round two thanks to Watson (2), Tayler,
Phoebe Booth, Lucy Jones, Vicki Grimshaw and an own goal.
Booth's late equaliser in the quarter-final at Bishop's Cleeve earned a 1-1
draw before a 3-2 penalty shoot-out victory, while Dursley also required
penalties to defeat Red Falcon 7-6 in the semi-finals after a goalless draw.
