At the Swansea.com Stadium, nearly 1,400 fans turned out for the South Wales derby. League
leaders Cardiff City Women had a slight edge over second placed Swansea City in the first
half, but weren’t able to convert and it was all square at the break. Swansea came out the brighter
side in the second half and their energy paid off when Stacey John-Davies’ crosspitch pass put in
Katy Hosford for the opening goal. The Bluebirds rallied and Phoebie Poole took a chance from
outside the area to loop over the keeper for an equaliser and for her tenth of the season. The game
continued to be end to end but neither side could find the winner and it finished 1-1, enough for
Swansea to confirm a top half finish in Phase 1.
Pontypridd Utd were hoping to strengthen their grip on fourth place, but it was hosts
Cardiff Met Women who emerged as 1-0 winners. Erin Murray got the only goal of the game to
leave the Archers needing just a point from their last three Phase 1 fixtures to secure a space in the
Championship Division.
The New Saints were in prime position to take advantage and close the gap to Ponty and
away at Aberystwyth Town,they looked to be in control of the game; Caitlin Chapman opened
the scoring, with Lucie Platt adding a second ahead of half time. Chapman doubled her tally in the
59th minute, a goal that instead of securing the victory for TNS, inspired the Seasiders to mount
a comeback. Elin Jones got the hosts’ first and Gwynllian Jones reduced the arrears just six
minutes later. Tania Wylde grabbed an injury time equaliser and not only did the game end 3-3,
it leaves both teams level on points and level on goal difference and just three points adrift of
fourth place.
The ball was therefore very much in Barry Town Utd’s court, as they faced Abergavenny
Women in a late kick off at Jenner Park. The Pennies however were there to spoil the party, Alana
Murphy looping in a shot from outside the
