Cardiff Met Women regained the leadership of the Orchard
Welsh Premier Women’s League on goal difference last Thursday
night with a 4-0 victory over Port Talbot Town and remain on
top after Swansea City’s scheduled match against
Abergavenny Women on Sunday was postponed.
Shannon Evans get Met the lead midway through the
first half and the Archers went on to seal the points after the break,
Chloe O’Connor netting a second half brace either side of a goal
from Ellie Preece.
The other match on the same night saw Cardiff City Women strengthen
themselves in third place by winning 3-1 away to Cyncoed Ladies. Catherine Walsh and
Ffion Price put City two goals ahead at the break and although Megan Saunders reduced
the arrears for the Mighty Oaks on the hour, Zoe Atkins wrapped up the win for City with
their third goal.
On Sunday, City hosted Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Cardiff City Stadium
and marked the occasion by running out 6-0 winners. The visitors had gone into the game
looking for a third straight league win but a powerful first half display from City put them
five goals ahead at the break. Zoe Atkins netted twice insdie the opening twenty minutes
but in-form striker Phoebie Poole went one better as she hit a first half hat-trick, before
Catherine Walsh rounded off the scoring after the break, to complete a scoreline which
means that City are guaranteed a top three finish.
Cascade Youth Club are off the bottom of the table following their 2-1 victory
against Aberystwyth Town. Daisy Evan-Watkins gave Cascade the lead from the
penalty spot, midway through the first half, and Mia Kemp added their second with
sixteen minutes remaining. Flavia Jenkins pulled one back for Aberystwyth but Cascade
held on for their second league win of the
