It has been a good few days for Glasgow City as they strengthened their position at the
top of SWPL 1 with a four-point haul against their two title rivals.
On Sunday, City took on Rangers and won 2-0 to go six points ahead of their
opponents. Priscilla Chinchilla gave City a second minute lead and the Costa Rican
wrapped up a big win for her side with her second goal just ahead of half time.
City then played away to Celtic on Wednesday night and would have been the
happier side with the resulting goalless draw. Janine van Wyk saw a first half penalty
saved by Celtic goalkeeper Chloe Logan and after the break, Lee Alexander repeated the
feat at the other end when she kept out a spot kick from Sarah Ewens.
Celtic had started the day in second place having beaten Motherwell 3-0 on
Sunday. Sarah Ewens headed them in front, with Rachel Donaldson and Sarah
Teegarden adding the other goals ahead of half time.
Rangers were to reclaim second in midweek as they defeated Hearts 4-0. Lizzie
Arnot netted a first half brace, either side of a goal from Zoe Ness, and Sonia O’Neill
rounded off the scoring during the second half.
This was a second defeat in four days for Hearts, following their 3-0 reverse at the
hands of fourth placed Spartans. Ronaigh Douglas put Spartans ahead with a long
range strike and they sewed up the win with further goals in the last fifteen minutes from
       Katherine Smart and Michaela McAlonie.
Hibernian meanwhile kept up their recent goal glut by scoring five times without
reply past Forfar Farmington. Carla Boyce opened up the scoring on the half hour,
with Colette Cavanagh adding a goal either side of half time. Joelle Murray slotted home
the fourth and Amy Muir netted the final goal for Hibs with five minutes remaining.
            Spartans and Hibernian then
